Captain’s Corner with Captain Herbert Lork |
Aloha from the bridge — it’s Captain Herb
Whale season’s just around the corner, and a few early arrivals might already be tail-slapping their way into Hawaiian waters. When you’re out there, keep your eyes peeled for a puff of mist on the horizon — that’s usually the giveaway before a full breach. And remember, if you hear a splash before you see it… that means the whale won this round.
The Kona side’s been serving up glassy mornings and choppy afternoons — classic fall pattern — so if you plan to head out, go early, come back smiling.
Captain’s Tip: Give your bilge pump some love before you need it, not after. A five-minute check now beats an hour of bailing later. And if you see me out there waving from the helm, don’t worry — I’m not flagging you down. I probably just saw something shiny!
Stay tuned for next month’s Captain’s Corner — we’ll be deep into whale season by then, and I’ll share a few tricks for spotting them up close without getting too close.
